Govt keeps climate security report under wraps

Failure to release intelligence assessment is not in public's interests.

The Australian government’s decision to keep a landmark assessment of the  national security consequences of climate change secret is not in the public’s interest.

Despite calls for transparency from the public, politicians and the Australian Security Leaders Climate Group, the Office of National Intelligence will not release a declassified version of a comprehensive assessment of the risks to Australia from climate change.

The Australian public is being primed to respond to the perceived military threats from regional powers, but are being kept in the dark about the greater risk of climate breakdown. Australia must accelerate its transition to a low-carbon economy, and rapidly demilitarise.
