October 15th is the 70th anniversary of the first nuclear weapon that was tested on mainland Australia at Emu Field, South Australia, on Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) lands.
MAPW is proud to be amongst 130+ civil society organisations marking this solemn occasion by endorsing ICAN Australia’s Black Mist and the Ban statement.
The statement calls on PM Anthony Albanese to “sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons without delay and initiate the process of Australia ratifying it and adhering to its obligations, including to seek universalisation and assist nuclear victims and impacted environments.”
