AWM + Children: Time to talk peace

MAPW has released a new report on the Australian War Memorial's programming for children.

In a new report, MAPW has developed a set of key principles to improve the AWM’s programming for children.

Young Australians deserve something better than the existing narrative of endless wars.

The Australian War Memorial is uniquely placed to provide it, by instilling in our children and youth not only a respect for our war dead, but also hope for a more peaceful future and knowledge of the tools needed to achieve it.

But the AWM has drifted from its purpose, and is failing to promote serious reflection and critical thinking about the place of warfare in today’s world.

The report features an introduction from acclaimed author Jackie French AM, and proposes a set of eight principles to guide the AWM as it redevelops its children’s galleries. The principles in the report have been endorsed by Save the Children, the Academy of Child and Adolescent Health, and the Australian Psychological Society.
