Doctors and other health professionals in Australia have expressed outrage at government complicity with humanitarian suffering in Yemen.
Responding to today’s disclosure that the Australian Government subsidises Saudi Arabian weapons exports for Canberra company EOS, President of the Medical Association for Prevention of War, Dr Sue Wareham, said:
“Our government has abandoned any sense of ethical responsibility. The failure to acknowledge the role of Australian weapons sales in perpetuating the human catastrophe in Yemen is unsustainable.”
“All weapons trade with actors in Yemen must stop immediately.”
Saudi Arabia is actively involved in the long-running conflict in Yemen. The United Nations has accused both Saudi Arabia and UAE of probable war crimes in Yemen.
EOS is a sponsor of the Australian International Airshow Aerospace and Defence Expo in Avalon, Victoria. The weapons expo is subsidised by local, state and federal governments. Its organising body has charitable status and does not pay tax.
