Your support for #doctors4syria – Please tweet or email on 16 &17 September 2013
Dear colleagues and students
I am writing to you today to ask you to join with me in a movement of renowned doctors from around the world including several IPPNW co-presidents, who are warning of a massive medical catastrophe in Syria unless immediate action is taken. Specifically I would like to ask you to tweet your support to Syrian doctors today, 16 September using the Hashtag #Doctors4Syria ahead of the opening of the UN General Assembly.
On 17 September Heads of State and Foreign Ministers meet to open the UN General Assembly in New York after the summer break. We want to send a clear message to them that the world is watching and they need to do something beyond planning a military attack to ease the unbelievable suffering of Syrian civilians and make sure doctors can treat patients in Syria. It has been reported in the weekends papers that Foreign Affairs Minister “in waiting”, Julie Bishop MP will be attending the UN meeting representing Australia.
The campaign needs your help to make sure that this message reaches those who can make a change in ordinary Syrians’ lives. That’s why I am asking you, along with medical student bodies, journals and doctors’ unions from all over the world, to send a strong message via twitter today (16 September) and tomorrow (17 September) addressed to @JulieBishopMP by using the hashtag #Doctors4Syria.
Please see below for suggested tweets:

The campaign is hoping to make lots of noise on Twitter to get our hashtag #Doctors4Syria trending worldwide, so I would really appreciate it if you are able to share this email with your friends and networks. The joint letter will be online from September 16 on the webpage of the Lancet and you can view it by clicking this link http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736%2813%2961938-8/fulltext
If you do not use twitter it’s easy to start an account, alternatively you could email Julie Bishop the same messages at [email protected]
It would be fantastic if you were able to be a part of this global message.
