MAPW has written to the Australian National Audit Office requesting an assurance review of the management of the export and supply of military and dual-use goods and technologies.
There are significant current and emerging risks associated with Australia’s defence exports regime. The regime is characterised by a lack of transparency, limited reporting requirements, poor data collection, weakly defined standards and procedures, and no independent oversight or scrutiny.
We also asked the ANAO to review the Defence department’s use of the Freedom of Information scheme to withhold information, as well as the scope and capability of end-use monitoring and enforcement of end-use violations.
