The Rome Statute is the treaty that established the International Criminal Court, which can investigate and prosecute international crimes in situations where states are unable or unwilling to do it themselves. It was adopted in 1998 and entered into force in 2002.

War is an obscenity: Sir William Refshauge, 1991
Sir William Refshauge wrote this article for MAPW's newsletter, 'Pulse' in February 1991, at the time of the first Gulf War. He argues that war is an obscenity and puts a strong case for supporting the role of the United Nations. Whilst dismissing "peace at any price", Sir William notes the human and ecological consequences of war.
Eliminating Nuclear Weapons: May 2009
28 MAY 2009. Former Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser addresses the National Consultative Committee on Disarmament Conference in Wellington. Mr Fraser spoke about the continous threat of nuclear possession and noted that we cannot divide nuclear weapons into those for use and those for deterence. Negotiating a Nuclear Weapons Convention would bring together all the neccessary aspects of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, and the time is right for complete abolition.

Necdet Ipekyuz of the Turkish Medical Association outlines the fundamental issue that regions "where armed conflict is ongoing receives assistance in the form of health, educational equipment, food and clothing from various NGOi's. There isn't enough effort being put into practice in bringing about a peaceful solution to the armed conflict". A paper presented at the IPPNWi World Congress, 1998.
