Uranium sales to India: legal advice
Formal legal opinion provided to ICAN by Professor Don Rothwell from the Australian National University states that the South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone Treaty prohibits Australia from selling uranium to countries that have not accepted full-scope safeguards.

New Clear Exchange ICAN workshop: Melbourne 1 May 2010

ICAN media release: Government urged to act on nuclear treaty - September 2009
17 September 2009 ICANi media release following the tabling of the report of the Joint Standing Committe on Treaties, on Australia's nuclear treaties. The release quotes Dimity Hawkinds and MAPW's Bill Williams and Sue Wareham, as welcoming recommendations that the government support a Nuclear Weapons Convention, and play a leading role in working for nuclear disarmament.

Kawasaki Akira is one of two NGOi Advisors to the Co-Chairs of the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (ICNNDi). Hiroshima Day Melbourne events 2009

Australia, nuclear weapons and the right to life: ICAN 2008
This ICANi submission to the UN Human Rights Committee assesses Australia’s compliance with Article 6 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in respect of Nuclear Weapons. The Committee has previously indicated that nuclear weapons are incompatible with the right to life under the treaty. ICANi argues that Australia is in breach of its obligations in four ways: by supporting preparations for nuclear war carried out at Pine Gap; by allowing US nuclear-armed vessels to enter our waters; by relying on the "protection" of US nuclear deterrence; and by exporting uranium to nuclear-armed countries.

Anti nuclear groups applaud PM’s Hiroshima initiative: 9 June 2008
MAPW has congratulated Prime Minister Kevin Rudd for his announcement that Australia will set up a new international body to push for nuclear disarmament. President Dr Sue Wareham OAM, also an Australian Board Member of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, said that Mr Rudd should also be applauded for visiting Hiroshima – the first Australian Prime Minister to do so. Dr Wareham and others are available for comment.
NPT PrepCom: ICAN report, 2008
Tim Wright attended the nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty Preparatory Committee Meeting in Geneva in May 2008 on behalf of ICANi. MAPW Immediate Past President Tilman Ruff, with Yarra Councillor Jenny Farrar, were NGOi representatives on the official Australian delegation. This ICANi report describes both the official meeting, including Australia's role; and the unofficial campaign meetings and workshops of anti-nuclear NGOis which accompanied it.
