MAPW calls for carbon audit of "wargames"
MAPW has asked Federal and Queensland politicians to support their request for the Australian Government to conduct a carbon audit of the Talisman Sabre joint US-Australian military exercises currently being held in Central Queensland.
MAPW has written a letter to all Federal and Queensland politicians, raising concerns about the financial and unknown environmental costs of the exercises. The letter enclosed MAPW's new fact sheets on Talisman Sabre and on the hazards of nuclear armed and nuclear powered ships. The Association has also written to the PM to request the audit, and raise concerns about the exercises.
A media release from MAPW and Doctors for the Environment (DEAi) calling for a carbon audit before the start of these 30,000-person "war games", was reported across Australia at the weekend.
