Hiroshima remembered around Australia

MAPW members joined commemorative vigils around Australia to mark the dropping of an atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima at 8.15 on a summer morning in 1945.

In Melbourne, members - with colleagues from Pax Christi, Japanese for Peace, Friends of the Earth, and the Quakers - gathered at 7am on a winter's morning, on the steps of St Paul's Cathedral in the city's centre - lighting candles in memory of the 85,000 who died immediately.

Commemorations were also held in Hobart and Perth, with further events planned for the next three days in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
