Dr Peter Karamoskos replies to "Northern Territory News" editorial on nuclear waste at Muckaty

On 6 December 2011 the Northern Territory News asserted in an editorial that the nuclear waste destined for Muckaty will be radioactive waste from hospitals and accused MAPW of "scare mongering".

In response MAPW's Dr Peter Karamoskos provided an article which was published in the NT News on 10 December 2011. This article points out that most nuclear medicine waste is short-lived and disposed of safely without the need for a repository such as that planned for Muckaty. In fact most of the waste destined for the site is Lucas Heights nuclear reactor operational waste and contaminated soil. It was printed under the heading “Dump this lazy plan – ‘Solution’ brings more problems”.
