The Pugwash movement begain 1950s and was initiated by Lord Bertrand Russell, Albert Einstein, Sir Joseph Rotblat (the only scientist to resign on ethical grounds from the Manhattan Project) and other leading scientists from both sides of the Cold War and has continued to this day as a global movement. Pugwash were awarded the 1995 Nobel Peace Prize jointly with Sir Joseph Rotblat for their significant contribution to nuclear disarmament.
