Talisman Sabre protest planning
Talisman Sabre is the name of the largest military training exercises in Australia, with 26,000 troops — over half of them from the US — training every second year. One of the main aims is to "increase interoperability" with US forces.
The next war games are scheduled from 6—26 July 2009, with a focus on Shoalwater Bay in Central Queensland.
The movement to resist these war games has been building in the last few years, and 2009 looks like having the most powerful protests yet with many determined to stop the exercises from happening.
