Eliminating nuclear weapons: Red Cross conference

A conference on nuclear weapons hosted by Australian Red Cross and Flinders University will be held in November 2012. The conference will be a multi-disciplinary symposium exploring issues associated with nuclear weapons from the legal, medical and broader community perspectives.

The keynote speaker will be Judge C.G. Weeramantry, Panel Judge on the 1996 International Court of Justice “Legality of use or threat of use of Nuclear Weapons” Advisory Opinion. The program also features two well-known MAPW people, Assoc Prof Tilman Ruff AM, Chair, International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICANi) speaking on “The Global Climate Effects and Famine Following Regional Nuclear War” and Dr Sue Wareham OAM, Vice-President, MAPW, speaking on “The Nuclear Deterrence Theory - a threat to inflict unimaginable suffering on civilian populations”
