Arms Fair in Adelaide
The Asia Pacific Defence and Security Exhibition is an arms fair which provides manufacturers and arms traders with an opportunity to display their latest war fighting machinery.
Seven major arms-producing countries have already booked major exhibition space for their manufacturers: France, Germany, Israel, Italy, South Africa, the UK and the USA.
These countries produce at least 80% of military equipment: from boots to bombers.
The exhibition will open in Adelaide on Remembrance Day, 11 November, which marks the end of the 1914-1918 war, the "war to end all wars". It is traditionally a time when we remember those who died in past wars, rather than promoting war machinery.
MAPW, with other peace groups around Australia are planning to mark this event with events in Adelaide and elsewhere, and with an information campaign documenting the human and health costs of the arms industry.
