Draft Constitution September 2014

In November 2012, the Victorian government replaced the Associations Incorporation Act 1981, with the Incorporation Reform Act 2012 . As MAPW is incorporated in Victoria, the National Council has been reviewing the new legislation and working on draft  amendments to our current constitution. Their aim is to ensure the constitution complies with the new Act.

As the structure of the new Act is somewhat different to its predecessor, the National Council has considered advice from the Public Interest Law Clearing House (PILCH) and the draft constitution has been also been reviewed by a specialist solicitor, on a pro bono basis. Preserving the core values and objectives of MAPW has been central throughout the process.

Now the draft constitution is complete, members will be asked by their state branch to review the draft and each branch will hold a meeting of members to consider and approve the draft. Members will be contacted by their state branch coordinator soon to let you know when and where your branch meeting will take place. Its your organisation, and the National Council hopes that as many members possible are able to attend. Your feedback and approval is vital to the future work of MAPW.
