As the international community moves to bring the recently concluded Arms Trade Treaty into force, it is timely to consider its ability to reduce the human cost of the arms trade. What measures of success should we apply to weapons regulations, and how can they be evaluated in practical terms?

Professor Yuki Tanaka, Research Professor of History at the Hiroshima Peace Institute, Hiroshima City University will examine the specific characteristics of the ‘comfort women’ system which differentiate it from other types of military violence against women.
